You just saw someone tweet about realignment and you either groaned or were elated.Realignment twitter is the most underrated twitter community simply for the entertainment factor alone.
The personalities involved are hilarious: You have faux insiders just looking for the glory of a retweet, you have actual insiders who are used as pawns to push narratives, you have the forever hopeful G5 fans hanging on any crumb of infortmation and you have P5 fans who just want this over with. It's a hilarious mixture of snark ,information and dark comedy
If you want to get political for a minute "FAKE NEW!" started on realignment twitter tbh. If you were on twitter from the beginning of this realignment wave (2010) you've seen countless statements of fact then walked back and replaced. I fist pumped in the Summer of 2010 when the PAC16 was announced on ESPN and that information spread through the media. Well, here were are in 2017 and no PAC16 in sight.
The thing with realignment is every tidbit that leaks there is a small kernel of truth to it, or so I've discovered over the years. Late Fall 2015 the rumblings of info I heard where WWE style network, sure enough come Spring of '16 the Big 12 was hearing presentations on that very concept. That one rumble of truth I heard was enough to get me fully tuned in as the Big 12 hemmed and hawed during this latest blunder.
There is so many twists to it, it's great reality TV. Last summer no one saw the Big 12 starting to explore additional members seriously, It was a huge shock to the established media when the Big 12 Presidents voted to explore it. It made for a fun afternoon on twitter. The drama around the candidates played out like The Bachelor, it was surreal. It's one big giant soap opera. It's hilarious and though it's tedious, I enjoy it immensely.
Realignment rumor mongering is the clickbait that has launched a thousand blogs, take anything you hear as one-tenth true and nine-tenths entertainment, because frankly all you're getting out of it is the entertainment.
Here's hoping for another great spring of Realignment Twitter to keep us entertained.
