Big 12 Football Programs as Halloween Candy

KANSAS STATE
A Box of Breakfast Pack Regular Cheerios
The old man passed out what he knows and love. It's fine, you respect him. It's just bland but can occasionally be spiced up

KANSAS
Raisins
These people obviously have no idea how this holiday/sport is done.

IOWA STATE
Homemade Popcorn Balls
They're usually awful but occasionally they border on acceptability when done just right

TEXAS TECH
3 Musketeers
Generally popular with everyone but it's all fluff and unfulfilling overall

TCU
M&Ms
A solid winner, seems every few years you get a stale bag tho.

BAYLOR
Black Licorice
No one likes this crap

OKLAHOMA STATE
Reese's Pieces
A well respected option these days with some reals concerns about potential for melting

WEST VIRGINIA
Oreo Packs
Nothing  wrong with them, they are usually good - they just dont feel like a Halloween/ Big 12 item

TEXAS
Laffy Taffy
You remember it being a lot better when you were younger. Hard to chew (stiff defense) but weird aftertaste (Bad offense)

OKLAHOMA
Party Bag Mix

A little bit of everything. May chip your tooth on a bad Skittle (losing to Iowa State)  or might get some rad Snickers (beating Ohio State)

IT review. : You'll Float Too.

. If i was describing this movie to someone who has no frame of reference for it at all.  I'd settle on Stranger Things meets "Stand By Me"

This adaptation isn't so much a horror story but a condensed coming of age story with suspense elements. The story while dark and menacing is mostly about the journey of the protagonists - the true gruesome stuff is incidental and takes center stage presumably in the second chapter.

I found our protagonists relateable  - I had flashbacks to my childhood and experienced a ton of nostalgia - especially during the lighthearted swimming scene and those awkward teenage moments. If you're around a certain age the latch-kid key nature of the Losers' Club was your life - the good and the bad. There's a lot of Derry Maine in my hometown - secrets just under the surface or out in the open and ignored. I forgot how much my small town life related to the book. King nailed the strange undercurrent that can insulate communities

The film has humor, my main concern was that without Curry the comedic timing would be off - the comedic timing in this adaptation was better and much more endearing to take nothing away from Curry's performance in the TV adaptation but the comedic moments in this one don't take you from the moment.

The special effects are good, though not spectacular. The ending of the first chapter suffers from the same silliness that the 90's version did but it's forgivable

I'd say this film is a solid 8 of 10. I will view this in the theater again.

Big 12 Week 1 Schedule & Predictions

Thursday:

Oklahoma State vs Tulsa (FS1 6:30CT)

The general line of thought out of Vegas is this think is gonna be a high scoring affair as the o/u is set at 70. I'd be shocked if this game went under honestly but I  have some hesitations - I could easily see OSU wanting to work on its running game. I don't see how Tulsa replaces its offensive skill positions early vs OSU.

OSU 49 - Tulsa 17

Saturday

Texas vs Maryland (FS1 11a.m)

Texas is back folks!  Texas is favored by 18.5 but that seems a tad high to me - Texas lost their best offensive weapon to the NFL and once again it's offense is learning a new playbook and dealing with breaking in new systems.  Maryland's Durkin is no slouch either and DKR isn't exactly going to be rocking for this 11:00 a.m kick off. I think Maryland  keeps it close, Texas pulls away under growing Texas heat.

Texas 28 Maryland 17

Oklahoma vs UTEP (Fox 2:30)

The line is Oklahoma -44. UTEP is profoundly one dimensional when it comes to offense but Oklahoma is replacing many weapons on offense. If Oklahoma is going to cover they will need to start the Riley era hot. Prediction on Friday

Texas Tech vs Eastern Washington (FSN 3:00)

Kliff is on the hot seat.Eastern Washington's best weapon is in the NFL and it's coach jumped for an FBS O.C gig. The defense has to be improved right?  I expect Tech will put up enough points to win this one.

Tech 49 - EWU 31

Kansas vs SEMO (JTV 6:00)

Did you know Kansas beat Texas last season?  Kansas by 42- SEMO 7

Kansas State vs Central Arkansas (ESPN3 6:00)

Snydercats ease into the season with a 50 point drubbing

Baylor vs Liberty  (FS2 6:00)

Rhule's defense takes a few years to develop and this is a young, young defense. Baylor 35 Liberty 24

ISU vs UNI (CyTV 7:00)

Iowa State needs a win if they want to go bowling and CMC needs to not lose to the instate FCS program in back to back years  or else a lot of positive momentum for the program will be gone.

ISU 31 UNI 14

TCU vs JSU (FSN 7:00)

Did you know Jackson State existed? Neither did I: TCU 66 - JSU 0

Sunday

WVU vs Va Tech (ABC 6:30)

Va Tech is favored by 4.5. WVU replaces a lot of defensive talent and has had some heavy attrition at WR. Va Tech is also replacing key pieces on offense so you wonder where the production comes from. Dana vs Bud is going to be fun

I side with Bud

Va Tech 28 WVU 24

Rapid Reaction: Riley's first game week press conference

Well that was new. It still seems so odd that Lincoln is the head man but Riley certainly filled that role quite well today

The big news out of the press conference

- Murray is official QB2, AK to RS - It's been trending Murray's way for a long time as I've wrote and podcasted about on the patreon.. Kendall redshirting means this coming spring will be an all out battle for the QB1 job.   Tanner Schafer a gunslinging walk on from Canadian High School in Texas is Oklahoma's emergency QB this season.  Tanner turned down scholarship offers from Ohio and Tulsa to walk onto Oklahoma last year, Riley and those in the know have praised Tanner's ability - he is a Air Raid QB pure and simple.

- Lamb on PR - Riley said that Lamb would be PR1 if the game was today. That's high praise for a freshman who should be heavily in the WR rotation as well. A ton of responsibility for a freshman, he's obviously shown a lot to earn it

- JMT will be available vs UTEP - Murray will start, JMT will play. It'll be extremely important to get both young linebackers playing time.
