Film Review: Hush - 2016

Hush is a '16 independent horror film from rising director Mike Flanagan.  I found this on Netflix a few months ago and enjoyed it.The film is low budget obviously but it doesn't feel cheap, the setting goes a long way in stretching the budget. The premise of the film isn't unique or breaking any ground, but Flanagan directs and dictates pace in order to build tension that grabs your attention. You don't mind if you have seen a similar story done before, the director makes this film work through cinematography.

The cast is fine, the characters they play have an extremely limited backstory. There isn't a lot of exposition in this film, it's straight to the point. The female protagonist is deaf, the male antagonist is outside of his damn mind, there are limited supporting characters. It's a fun romp, and for and independent Netflix find it is extremely well done. If you enjoy horror, you will like this film.
