You're going to read a million quality articles and think pieces this week so if you're reading my shitty writing I can assure you quality will be lacking. I hope if you've followed me long enough on twitter you get when I'm doing an act, rarely do I go into homer mode and it not be lampoon of my fandom in itself.
My personal feelings haven't really changed much since seeing the tape. I knew it was going to be bad, I read the report, I had in-depth conversations with people who had seen it. I knew it was going to be a shitty, shitty day for the program when it was released.
We're here now, almost thirty months after the incident and the world gets to see what happened. I don't begrudge media doing its job, I dislike however feelings over fact and op-ed over fact. I'm not going to defend the act itself but I do want to clarify a few things.
Oklahoma doesn't grant red-shirt seasons, the NCAA does.
Oklahoma didn't hinder the tapes release, Mixon's attorney did.
Oklahoma didn't hinder the medias access to Joe Mixon, Mixon's attorney did
The above are things Oklahoma had no control over in this thing. Everything else is a valid point of critic of Bob Stoops and this program, but the above three is not but all three seem to be among the most heavily repeated on social media..
The bottom line to me is Mixon should have never put his hands on her, Full Stop the end. We're 30 months out and that should still be big take away. I dont think he should have remained here at the time, but he served his punishment. The information in the tape has been freely available for two years now.
Don't put your hands on women, don't let a split second action have the ability to follow you around.
